AI Data Protection Gets an Upgrade with BigID Next – But Challenges Remain

AI Data Protection Gets an Upgrade with BigID Next – But Challenges Remain

Breakthroughs in technology often bring new risks, and AI is no exception. As businesses integrate AI into their operations, expand their operations across cloud environments, and handle ever-growing volumes of sensitive data, they expose themselves to greater data security threats.

AI adoption not only brings new data security threats but also introduces compliance risks. The stricter global regulations demand proactive compliance strategies. The challenge is further intensified by data sprawl across expanding cloud environments and SaaS applications.

BigID, a data security, privacy, and compliance company, has launched BigID Next, an AI-powered Data Security Platform (DSP) designed to help enterprises discover, manage, and protect data at scale.

The platform is designed to provide a comprehensive solution, integrating data security, privacy, compliance, AI governance, and data lifecycle management within a unified system.

BigID claims that the platform is the “first modular data platform to address the entirety of data risk” across security, compliance, and AI. Unlike traditional tools that provide “siloed and static protection,” BigID Next is positioned as a more adaptive solution designed to keep up with evolving threats and regulatory demands.

The company cites a Gartner study that predicts that by 2026, organizations that prioritize AI transparency and security can boost adoption, business impact, and user trust by 50%. This could boost AI adoption, and BigID sees this as an opportunity. It has designed BigID Next as a solution to help businesses navigate the challenges that come with AI adoption.

We can agree that organizations will need more sophisticated solutions to address stricter regulations, rising security risks, and the complexities of modern data environments.

BigID emphasizes that these shifting demands are the driving force behind BigID Next. “Since BigID started, requirements for data visibility and control have expanded in response to security concerns, the proliferation of privacy and other data regulations like ITAR and PCI, an accelerated shift to cloud, and, of course, new demands around AI,” said Nimrod Vax, co-founder and Head of Product at BigID.

“Building a future-proof data platform that can cover all of the control needs around AI risk security, compliance, and privacy requires a rethink. BigID Next is that solution – it’s a next-gen approach to giving organizations unmatched visibility and control over their data.”

BigID Next is built on a patented AI for data discovery and classification. It offers a prompt-based data classification for business users. Additionally, it offers an advanced AI tool for data management using NLP, NER, deep learning, and LLM features.

Built on a modular framework, BigID Next offers flexibility and scalability, allowing organizations to integrate features as needed and adapt to evolving requirements. According to BigID, this feature makes the platform a future-proof investment.

Additionally, the platform offers multiple cloud deployment options, including multi-tenant, single-tenant, hybrid cloud, and secure cloud snapshot scans. Other features include customizable compliance and risk reporting

“With AI reshaping data security and compliance, companies need a solution that’s not just reactive but intelligent, adaptive, and scalable,” said Dimitri Sirota, co-founder and CEO at BigID. “BigID Next sets a new standard for how enterprises protect data, reduce risk, and enable innovation—all within a single, unified platform.”

Data has traditionally been managed through siloed solutions, where separate tools handle data governance, compliance, risk management, and security. However, this fragmented approach has been less successful with the ever-increasing volume and complexity of data and the rise of AI applications.

BigID asserts that the traditional tools “designed for a pre-AI, pre-cloud world are simply not built for this level of complexity”, and it aims to help businesses overcome some of these challenges with BigID Next.

However,  BigID would have to contend with some hurdles, including AI hallucination and false positives. AI-powered classification and risk assessments can misinterpret data. This could lead to incorrect security actions. While modality is a key selling point for BigID Next, integrating different components with existing ecosystems could be difficult and may require significant IT resources.

Big is also entering a competitive space where several established players already offer AI-driven security and compliance tools. BigID’s success will depend on how well it differentiates its AI capabilities from competitors and demonstrates measurable improvements in security and compliance outcomes.
