When del Toro unveiled the first trailer for Frankenstein at Netflix’s annual Tudum celebration in May, he noted for the crowd, “This is for me the culmination of a journey that has occupied most of my life. The film expanded to theaters nationwide on Oct. 24 and is still available to watch on the big screen. Frankenstein, of course, tells the story of Victor Frankenstein, an ambitious doctor obsessed with bringing the dead back to life after suffering a tragic loss in his youth. After he reanimates a being from several different body parts who is simply referred to as “The Creature,” Victor, frustrated with scarred creation, turns his back on the bewildered being, revealing who the true monster is.
