Dartmouth College Settles Data Breach Lawsuit for $750,000 Affecting 96,000 People
A college has agreed to pay $750,000 to settle a class action lawsuit over a data breach that exposed the personal information of nearly 97,000 people.
The official settlement website says the deal resolves claims that Dartmouth failed to protect Social Security numbers and financial account information after an August 2025 Oracle E-Business Suite incident claimed by the Clop ransomware group.
Approximately 96,911 people whose private information may have been accessed are covered by the class.
Members may receive up to $5,000 with documentation of losses or an estimated $75 payment without documentation, plus two years of credit monitoring.
Claims must be submitted by Oct. 21, 2026.
College spokesperson Jana Barnello said the school has now agreed on settlement terms in connection with class action litigation filed against Oracle, Dartmouth and other entities whose data was potentially accessed.
The agreement states that Dartmouth does not in any way acknowledge, admit to, or concede any of the allegations and expressly disclaims and denies any fault or liability.
A final approval hearing is set for Nov. 5, 2026.
