Massive Data Breach Exposes Sensitive Information on 1,200,000 Bank Accounts in France

Authorities in France say a database containing sensitive information on 1.2 million bank accounts has been breached.
The Ministry of Economy says an unauthorized entity gained access to the national FICOBA database of bank accounts last month.
“Upon detection of this incident, immediate access restrictions were implemented to stop the attack, limit the amount of data accessed and extracted from this database… Work is underway to restore service with optimal security.”
The intruder impersonated a civil servant’s credentials and accessed information including banking coordinates like RIB and IBAN, account holder identities addresses and tax identifiers.
Affected users will receive personal notifications soon and banks have been asked to alert clients to exercise caution.
“Numerous scams are circulating via email or SMS, aiming to obtain information or payments from users. These frauds now affect all audiences, both individuals and businesses. If you have any doubts, it is best not to reply directly…
If you suspect fraudulent use of your personal data, we recommend that you keep all evidence (messages, website address, screenshots, etc.)”
