South Carolina Man Admits To Draining $1,600,000 From New York Medical Supplier
A South Carolina man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison after embezzling about $1.6 million from a New York medical supplier by disguising company wires as customer refunds.
Tony Ream, 35, of Greenville, South Carolina, diverted the money from Henry Schein customer refund accounts between October of 2020 and November of 2024, reports FOX Carolina.
Ream joined the Melville, New York, firm in 2019 and later became a credit supervisor, giving him access to move funds from active and inactive customer accounts.
He recorded the roughly $1.6 million in transfers as legitimate refunds and deceived subordinates into processing parts of the scheme without knowing the wires were fraudulent.
Ream pleaded guilty to wire fraud and was sentenced on September 24th of 2026 to 30 months in prison, plus full restitution of $1.6 million and a $1,000 fine.
Court records show he spent the stolen money on his wedding, luxury overseas vacations and a failed restaurant venture in South Carolina.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge James C. Barnacle Jr. addressed the case.
