SpaceX Commits $100,000,000,000 To Build World’s Largest Spaceport in Louisiana
SpaceX is committing $100 billion to develop the world’s largest spaceport on coastal land in Louisiana.
The company says the new Starbase Louisiana facility will become its fourth and largest launch site, capable of supporting thousands of launches annually at full buildout.
The development will feature five launch complexes, each with two pads and a propellant farm, plus a propellant production facility, power generation, vehicle processing areas, and housing for employees and families.
The project is projected to generate 3,000 direct jobs over the next decade at an average annual salary of $92,600, which is 192% above the local Vermilion Parish average, along with more than 8,100 indirect jobs for a total exceeding 11,100 new opportunities in the Acadiana region.
Governor Jeff Landry is calling the announcement a pivotal moment for the state.
“Today is a pivotal moment for Louisiana. This announcement pushes our state beyond $250 billion in new investment and puts us at the center of the next great frontier. We have the people and talent to build what the world once thought impossible, creating jobs on land, across the Gulf and through space. Our job creation knows no bounds. This is America First. This is Louisiana First. I want to thank Elon Musk and the entire SpaceX team for choosing Louisiana.”
SpaceX Founder and CEO Elon Musk is emphasizing the transformative vision behind the project.
“We’re preparing to build a spaceport that, until now, has only existed in science fiction. SpaceX was founded to bring about a future where humans are out exploring amongst the stars, which will only be possible when we make going to space as routine as flying on an airplane. Starbase, Louisiana will unlock that future.”
Construction is slated to start in 2027, with initial flight operations targeted as soon as 2029.
